My love affair with beadwork began when I was in my 40's. I was invited to join a prayer group which prayed the rosary. I had been given a rosary by my grandmother, but when I began praying with the group I discovered that their rosaries had 5 "decades" of 10 beads each, but mine was different - it had two decades of 10 beads, then a group of 3 beads, and then two more decades of 10 beads.* It didn't work with the rhythm of the group prayer. So I knew I needed to get a new rosary, and suddenly it dawned on me that I could make my own. So I went to the bead store and bought beads and got my first beading instructions from the young woman in the store. And I've been stringing beads (and praying regularly) ever since! (*If anyone knows why a rosary would be made with a center group of 3 beads instead of 10, please e-mail me and tell me about that. I'm still curious!)
