This fractal is based on the mathematical sequence called the Fibonacci sequence (aka the Golden Mean or the Golden Ratio) because it was discovered by a man known as Fibonacci. The spiral shape produced by the Fibonacci sequence is also called Fibonacci's Nautilus. Compare the fractal at left with the artistic representation of Fibonacci's Nautilus at right.
