FENG SHUI
I
designed our home based on the Feng Shui Bagua. I must honestly say that I
don't have an in-depth knowledge of Feng Shui, but I like the layout of the
Bagua. It resonates with me - it's almost as if my body, rather than my
mind, recognizes the inherent harmony of the flow of energy in the Bagua. It
just FEELS right to me.
Here is
an introduction to Feng Shui, written by someone much more knowledgeable than I
am, my friend Barbara.
"Feng Shui originated in
China centuries ago as a science to aid in the combinations of environmental
planning, improvement, architecture and interior decoration. It has a solid
foundation in mathematics, physics, astronomy and geography.
The Chinese were more advanced
in their studies than we are today. We have come to rely so much on technology
that we have diminished our other senses. Today, in order to understand the
practice of Feng Shui, we have to stretch our limited perception of the world
to consider the idea that man is a fragment of Universal energies - some
visible in form, some invisible. The Chinese called these Universal forces
"chi." Feng Shui is the study of chi in a location.
A Feng Shui practitioner, or
consultant, aids his clients to create harmonious chi - to encourage health
and prosperity, and deter negative chi that might be creating illness or
stress in the client's environment. This may be achieved through balancing the
environment with the Universe's five great energies: earth, water, fire, metal
and wood; the colors representative of these energies; and the science of
manipulating the energies to flow congruently with the environment."
