Spring Canyonlands Retreat and A Brand New Website!
Canyonlands National
Park, Needles District
May 15 - 19,
2008, Thursday – Monday
Beauty is here
Where we stand now
Where we always stand.
Beauty and holiness
In the tiniest of sounds and movement,
In the texture of the light.
Beauty is what I see here
When I stop looking elsewhere for it,
And become intimate with ordinary things.
It is everything; there is nothing else.
Dance in beauty until you dissolve,
until you see your own true face everywhere.
-
Adrianna Heideman
We gather to dance in the Cave, to camp
in the red rock, to rest in the stillness, to create community with friends
and family, to share meals, to explore the Park and surrounding areas, and
reconnect with the Source and each other. We all have our part: Bernie
Heideman and Sky Majida lead Dances, along with other Dance leaders and
musicians, cooks prepare potluck dishes, temple keepers care for the Cave,
butterfly herders shuttle dancers, and all Beloveds bring their hearts to
share.
Opening circle and Dances: Thursday at 7 p.m., in the Split Top Cave. Closing
circle: Sunday afternoon. We also Dance Sunday evening, and camp does not
officially break until Monday morning.
Some camping will be at Wooden Shoe and Split Top; group sites in the Park;
others will be camping at Hamburger Rock on BLM land at a reduced fee. We have
an agreement with the Park Service that we will not use individual sites in
the Park during the weekend. Motels in Monticello are 50 miles away if camping
is not your preference.
We expect to be full, and in-Park camping is limited, so we suggest you
register soon. Sky Majida can send information to anyone who wants to know
more abaut the camp before they register (this same information is sent to
registrants.)
Children under 7 are free; older children are negotiable at a discount rate.
No pets, please.
Because of camping limitations and Park regulations limiting the size of our
gathering, we are absolutely not able to accommodate walk-ins.
The cost for the retreat is a sliding scale, $85 - $130,
as you can afford, in the Park; $60 on BLM land.
This is a drug and alcohol free event. Thank you.
Call or email Sky Majida to make sure
there is space for you to start the registration process.
Registration starts 20 March! The process:
1) Make checks to "Kathryn Sky", and note "DUP
Canyonlands" on the check. $80 - $130, as you can afford (Park), or $60
(BLM).
2) Please include the following information for each person you are
registering, for the roster:
• name, address, phone, email address;
• date you are arriving and date you are leaving;
• a brief description of passions/interests/hobbies (10 words or fewer).
3) Mail your registration to
Dances c/o Sky •
PO Box 90791 •

Explore,
deepen and develop your capacity to lead and experience the Spiritual
Walks & Dances of Universal Peace in this 3-year program. The
training will meet eight weekends over the course of three years. We
will explore the fundamentals for leading the Dances of Universal Peace,
including concentrations in sound, breath, music skills, movement/body
awareness, and unity of religious ideals, with a special emphasis on
Astrological, Wazifa, Body Center, Element and Tassawuri Walks training.
We will practice to enhance our capacities of magnetism and vitality, work
with energetics, stay in presence, communicate more authentically, and
lead from intuition rather than concept. We’ll explore our roles as
community builders/harmonizers, the meaning of the mentor-mentee
relationship, and what it means to represent lineage. The
series is open to current and aspiring leaders as well as dancers,
musicians and mentors who wish to deepen in their relationship to sacred
dance and walk. We encourage aspiring leaders to choose a mentor from
the Mentor Teachers Guild of the DUP if they wish to work toward certification
in the Dances. Participants
asked to commit to full 3-year course of study. Some allowances made for
new leaders wishing to enter after 1st module . Cost: $215 per weekend.

"Words can explain all things that are comprehensible, but for the soul, which passes beyond human comprehension, words are too inadequate. This path is understood as a serious endeavor, entered upon by taking Bayat (initiation) through a guide or senior teacher. Invitation to the Dance
The DVD video introduction to the Dances of Universal Peace filmed in Canyonlands this past September, is now linked to a number of Dance and Sufi websites world wide. You can view a low-resolution version of it at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ZjW4s-r0Lk. The high-resolution DVD is available, by donation, as is the music CD from Canyonlands September 2006; contact Sky for more information.
You have been listening to a recording from the Sedona Dances of Universal Peace, May 2007. The song is the "Mantra of Padmasambhava," an ancient Buddhist mantra, sung in Sanskrit version of the mantra. The melody and the dance were created by Bernie Heideman. In this recording Cathryn Tezha Swann is leading the dance.
