He is the Pir (Spiritual Director) of the Sufi Ruhaniat International, the Sufi lineage tracing from Hazrat Inayat Khan and Murshid Samuel Lewis. In 1972 Shabda met his second great teacher, the late Master Singer, Pandit Pran Nath, and began the daily practice of North Indian classical music in the Kirana style. He now teaches vocal music and performs Raga singing and has appeared in numerous concerts around the world. He is also a disciple of the illustrious Tibetan Buddhist Master, the 12th Tai Situpa Rinpoche.

Shabda travels throughout the world spreading the Sufi Message of Love, Harmony and Beauty. Shabda brings warmth, humor and clarity in his efforts to help seekers on their Path to Awakening.

Canyonlands Dance Camp Spring 2010 Canyonlands Dance Camp, April 29 - May 3
REGISTRATION NOW OPEN!!!
Registration for the spring Canyonlands camp is now open! The site is the same as last fall: Comb Wash Campground, between Comb Ridge and a surface Anasazi ruin. Activities will include Dances, potlucks, Laughter Yoga, hikes to Anasazi ruins and who knows what else. What do you want to offer? Who do you want to join you to play and Dance and eat and sing and pray and laugh with this time? INVITE THEM!

The Hikers of Universal Peace (HUPers) will reunite, potluck dinners will be cooked, sing-alongs may happen, and a good time will be had by all!

Through April 19, the fee is $60-100, as you can afford; after April 19, it is a minimum of $80. Make check payable to “Sky Roshay” with “Canyonlands” noted on the check. Send it to Sky Roshay, PO Box 90791, White Mountain Lake AZ 85912. If you have questions, contact Sky at skyness54(at)gmail.com or 928-537-0126.

The Welcome Information document will be available soon - it includes directions, a schedule, things to bring, etc etc. Remember that desert weather is variable.

About dogs:
It is important to know that we can only accept about 5 (five) well-behaved dogs, for an extra fee of $10 per dog, and you must get approval from me. Young, large dogs are pretty much a "NO". Dogs that show up without prior approval will be charged the late registration fee of $80-100, if there is room for extra dogs. Dogs that cause problems will be asked to leave (probably with their owners, since I don't see how it could happen without them...). Some people want no dogs at this retreat at all, so this is my best attempt at a compromise. Please, dog lovers, understand and help me out with this or we'll have to go back to the No Dogs policy.

Summer Solstice Celebration ~ Prescott, AZ

Summer Solstice Celebration in Prescott, AZ

Once again, we are meeting for a glorious picnic and dance gathering under the stars

Groom Creek School House, Saturday, June 19, 2010
From 4 pm until the stars come out …

The Picnic: The School House has grills and picnic tables available. Please bring your own meal, beverage, and a place setting for yourself. You might also want to bring a flashlight.

The Dances: We will open at 4 pm with some Dances and then enjoy each other’s company as we picnic and recreate at this delightful sight. Dances will resume by 6:30 and will continue as long as we wish, up until 10 pm.

The Setting: The Groom Creek School House is an historic site in the Prescott National Forest. The school was first built in 1896, rebuilt in the 1930s, and used as a school until the 1950s. Our gathering will be outside unless weather takes us inside. The entire site is handicap accessible, including the nearby nature trail and porta-potties. There is no running water. Parking is limited, so please carpool if you can. The $2 parking fee is waived as part of our group rental fee.

Directions: From Gurley Street take Mt. Vernon (Senator Highway) south for approximately 6.5 miles to Groom Creek. As you approach the community of Groom Creek, you pass Maripai Road on the right, the Friendly Pines Road. Just .3 miles farther, turn left at the sign to Groom Creek School House. There is also a sign for the Lion Club’s Handicap Trail. If the parking lot is full, you may park at Trailhead 307, which is just a short ways further down the road. Please do not park along the road.

Carpooling: Because parking in the woods is limited, please carpool if you can.

Donation: We are asking for a $10 donation per person to help cover the cost of the site, but all are welcome regardless of ability to pay.

Call Lance at (928) 445-6506 for more information.

This year’s retreat will focus on Murshid SAM’s transmission and how to integrate and weave his teachings into daily life. We will listen for our own Spiritual Transmissions and discover ways in which those too may become an active part of our everyday life. We will also focus on Magnetism and Healing: What it is, how to generate it, how to send it, how to use it to purify and revivify, how to use it for cleansing.

In addition to opening these inner doorways, we will offer: processions to the maqbara, stories about Murshid SAM, sohbet (spiritual discussion), walks, homework-dreamwork, bedtime stories, dancing, zikr, choir, sufi qigong, creative writing in the spirit, gemstone magnetism, magnetic humor, tea service and our usual frolicking amongst the trees.

Invitation to the Dance

Beloved Hazrat Inayat Khan ~ Great Spirit Come

A beautiful tribute to Hazrat Inayat Khan, who brought Sufism to the west.

DUP Music

On this page you are listening to recordings from the Sedona Dances of Universal Peace. Leader: Cathryn Tezha Swann. The songs are:

The Mantra of Padmasambhava, Custom Zikr, and Allah Hu Allah.

The first song is a recording of a dance created by Bernie Heideman, based on the Mantra of Padmasambhava. Padmasambhava was the Buddhist saint to brought Buddhism from India to Tibet. It invokes the spiritual power of the Vajra Guru, the one who comes like a thunderbolt, to help us attain enlightenment. This is the Sanskrit version of the mantra.

Om ah hum, Vajra Guru padma siddhi hum.

There is also a Tibetan version of this mantra: Om a hung, Benza Guru peme siddhi hung.

Custom Zikr - I believe it was written by a student of Leilah Be. I learned it from Sky Majida at Canyonlands Dance Camp, September 2006, at the time the Invitation to the Dance documentary was filmed. The DVD ends with this song.

La illaha il Allah hu, La illaha il Allah hu,
Ishq Allah mahboud lillah, Ishq Allah mahboud lillah...

Usually translated as
"there is no reality but Oneness, or there is nothing that is not God" and
"God is Love, Lover and Beloved."

Allah Hu Allah - Allah is the name of God used by Arabic speaking people, both Christian and Muslim. It means both Yes (Al) and No (lah) so it is really like yin and yang, both masculine and feminine, all that is manifest and all that is unmanifest. Hu is said to be the breath of God. I understand this to mean that on the outbreath of God, physical manifestation happens in creation, and on the inbreath of God, that which has been physical returns to the God, to the unmanifest state.

Allah hu Allah, Allah ya Allah,
la illaha il Allah

Allah is that which is manifest and unmanifest, Allah, oh, Allah,
There is nothing that is not God/Allah.
