Beginning at the top center of
the drawing:
On the north side (facing street) is the
entry with small office spaces for Tim and me on either side (Feng Shui Career
area.) Double glass doors look out into the courtyard, also for solar gain.
Room at upper left (NW) corner is the
guest bedroom/healing room (Feng Shui Travel and Helpful People area). We will
also put in a small bathroom there, where the larger closet is shown on this
plan.
Room on the upper right is (NE) corner is the
Library (Feng Shui Knowledge and Self-Cultivation area), which will have a
futon couch so that it can be used as another guest room if needed.
Moving "down" from there on this
diagram, on the East side of the house, there is a half bath and a large
utility closet, for things like the boiler for the in-floor radiant heating.
Next comes the dining room (Feng Shui Family and
Health area). There will be only a half wall there between the DR and Kitchen,
keeping an open feeling between DR, Kit, and LR.......There is a side door.
We'll park our cars on the east side of the house. There are glass block
walls in the courtyard walls there on the east and west sides - so glass
blocks facing the DR.
Then in the lower right (SE) corner is the
Kitchen (Feng Shui Wealth and Prosperity area). There will be a pantry in the
area just next to the side door, and Refrigerator next to it on the dining
room side....then there will be a peninsula from there. Sink will be in the
peninsula on the LR side, so that I can see into the LR while I'm at the sink.
The stove will be on the south wall just next to that peninsula.
In the center on the south side is the Living
Room (Feng Shui Fame area). Two sets of French doors there for the beautiful
view across the canyon, and for solar gain. There will be a picture window
between LR and Courtyard there.
In the lower left (SW) corner is our Master
Bed Room (Feng Shui Love and Relationship area). Another double French door
there. Eventually we will also have a porch all along the south side, with a
trellis over it........There is a walk-through closet with the laundry
room on the other side, so it will only be a few steps from dryer to closet.
On the outer wall there will be our master Bath, with a clawfoot tub for me
and a shower for Tim.
Between the bath and the guest
BR is my studio space (Feng Shui Creativity area). At last! A room of
my own, to do beadwork, clay sculpture, fabric arts, and whatever else my
fertile Artisan imagination can create!
In the very center of the
house is the open courtyard (Feng Shui Centering/ Healing area). I will use
the courtyard as an open air healing space when the weather is warm. We will
have a table and chairs for enjoying our morning coffee or dinner in the open
air. We are planning a small pond and waterfall for the south end of the
courtyard, by the Living Room. And there will be a stairway in there to go up
onto the roof, for sunset, moon and sky-gazing, and sometimes we will sleep
there under the stars........
